Data Scientist needed at Fleetwood Town

Fleetwood Town Football Club is a hard-working, dynamic, bold, positive, and enterprising club who are seeking a data scientist to enhance the day-to-day processes of the Performance Analysis and Recruitment departments.

Job Title: Data Scientist


Location: Fleetwood Town Football, Poolfoot Farm, Butts Road, Thornton Cleveleys, FY5 4HX


Hours: Full Time


Salary: £30,000 per annum


Closing Date: - 29th February 2020




Main Duties and Responsibilities


• Provide squad benchmarking analysis across the English Football Leagues.

• Monitoring performance trends of Fleetwood Town Football Club and opposition teams.

• Set piece analysis and databasing and the researching of best practice for set pieces.

• Provide statistical match reporting including metrics specific to the club’s playing philosophy.

• Assist and support the recruitment department by providing detailed analysis on targets including statistical benchmarking.

• Develop new and innovative methods of using and procuring data to support the decision making of coaches and senior club recruitment personnel.

Knowledge, Experience & Skills

Essential

• Can evidence a portfolio of work, demonstrating an ability to work with large datasets, to build, maintain and display output that enhances subjective analysis of team performance and player recruitment.

• A sound understanding of the game. Including, but not limited to, the technical and tactical analysis of teams and individuals.

• Experience working with raw data, including event data.

• Experience of working in a professional Football club delivering data analysis supporting both coaching and recruitment staff.


Desirables

• Experience of working within another professional sporting environment to that of football.

• Holds or is working towards a master’s degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science or related.

• Holds Intermediate Level Football Coaching Qualifications.


IT System Experience

• Extensive experience of programming language (Python/R).

• Creative and effective data visualisation (e.g. Tableau, ggplot2)

• Experience with web analytics platforms.

• Chyron Hego Coach Paint.
